It’s been a busy and productive summer so far. I have added two new pieces to the site, in By the Sea category. These two large gourd bowls feature sea shells that have been imbedded into the shell of the gourd and are surrounded by pierced medallions. The piercing gives the illusion of sea foam as the interior of each bowl is painted in ocean blue. Lights can be added to the inside of these bowls to enhance the pierced medallions.
It’s coming soon the 18th annual Evart woodcarver’s roundup in Evart Michigan. At the Osceola County Fairgrounds in Evart. We’ll be starting classes on June 7 at 9am. (for mine) I’ll be teaching four classes this year. Rain Sticks, Dream Catchers, Antler Bowls, and Wax on Egg Gourd Ornaments. There will be lots of wood carving teachers there as well, in many different disciplines for you to learn a new project from. As well as vendors with tools, wood, blanks, and books to fill your wish list from. Lots of evening activities and fun times so if you’re in the area stop in a see what’s going on. We’ll be there till noon on Saturday. The following week is Floydfest Wood Carving seminar week starting on Monday June 12th. This is a five day long carving class with one teacher of your choice to learn from some of the best carvers in the country is small classes.
This fairground has a very nice campground and clean restrooms that are maintained throughout the show and there’s a special rate for our carvers so if you are camping ask at the desk when you arrive. Stop by and say “hello” if you make it up next week.
We were in Holland Michigan last week to have a bit of lunch and got there to early so we stopped at a local shop to look around. We were at the Hotel Furniture Outlet (148 Waverly Rd.). What a unique shop they have. Lots of furniture and beds, hundreds of lamps and chairs. Tried to buy lampshades but they only come with the lamp base. So I didn’t get any shades, but the next time I need lamp parts I know where to go.
They have thousands of framed pieces of hotel art that are only $5 each! Now some of the pieces don’t have matts, some are single matt while a lot are double matted. There were plain black frames all the way to ornate gilt “carved” frames. You would need to know the size(s) you need as there are all kinds of frames to go through. If you were framing a whole collection and wanted the frames all the same this is the place to shop. You can check them out at their website,
